Abstract
PURPOSE: To prepare the title compound, safely, easily, and in high yield, by reacting a straight chain poly(dimethylsilane) having proper polymerization degree, an alkali metal, and an aromatic hydrocarbon capable of forming a complex with alkali metal, in an ether solvent.
CONSTITUTION: Dodecamethycyclohexasilane is prepared by reacting a straight chain poly(dimethylsilane) having a recurring unit of the formula and having a polymerization degree of 10-100, an alkali metal (e.g. Na, K, etc.) and an aromatic hydrocarbon capable of forming a complex with the alkali metal (e.g. biphenyl, etc.), in an ether-type solvent pref. at a temperature between 10°C and a boiling point of the solvent.
USE: Raw material of inorganic product, esp. silicon carbide filament.
