Abstract
PURPOSE: To produce an electrochemical display device, which has a low threshold value and a long life, by using an electrode, which is made of nickel hydrate and cadmium, as the opposite electrode of the display device using an electrochlomic element.
CONSTITUTION: Both a thransparent electrode 2 for display, which is mounted on a glass plate 1, and an opposite electrode 3, which is disposed at a protecting plate 4, are arranged in the space, which is formed between the plates 1 and 4 through a spacer 7, and in a container which is constructed through an electrolyte containing material 6 filled up with an electrolyte 5, thus producing a cell. As the aforementioned electrode 3, an electrode made of a mixture, which contains nickel hydrate such as NiO(OH) and Ni(OH)2 and cadmium such as Cd and CD(OH)2, is used. The mixing ratio of cadmium and nickel hydrate is 0.5 to 99 wt.% (preferably 1 to 20 wt.%) when converted into cadmium.
