Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a high-quality molded coke suitable for being fed to a shaft furnace with respect to viscosity, having high strength, consisting of a non-caking coal with high volatile content as a main raw material, by carbonizing a molded coal of a specific volume with volatile content not less than 32% at high temperatures. CONSTITUTION:A blended coal consisting of a non-caking coal with high volatile content as a main raw material is blended with a binder and pressed to form a molded coal having volatile content not less than 32% and a volume of 80-30 cc, which is carbonized at high temperatures. The occurrence of crack caused by thermal stress of the non-caking coal with high volatile content, having a big difference in coefficient of contraction due to a temperature difference between the surface and the central parts of the coal, can be prevented and a molded coke having a strength of DI<30>15 not less than 92 can be obtained.
