Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent cracking of the title blow molded article having a dome-like bottom part, by melting and closing one end of a polyester tube, while controlling the ratio of the diameter of the end of the tube in the bottom to the outer diameter of the tube above a specific value. CONSTITUTION:A polyester wherein the main recurring unit is polyethylene terephthalate, is extrusion molded or injection molded to an open-ended tube having definite outer and inner diameters and length. One end of the tube 1 is heated to the molding temperature, bent with a mold 4 and a mandrel 5 along the surface of the mold 4, welded and closed to form a bottom. The molding conditions are controlled to give d0 and d1 which satisfy the equation d0/d1>=0.4, wherein d0 is the diameter of the end of the tube in the bottom and d1 is the outer diameter of the tube. A blow molded article free from crack, and having excellent appearance can be obtained by this process.
