Abstract

PURPOSE: To manufacture the title article having excellent strength and heat insulation, economically, by coating at least a part of the surface of a core made of a foamed polystyrene resin prepated by the polymerization of styrene in the presence of polyethylene, with an unsaturated polyester resin.
CONSTITUTION: A foamed article having desired shape is prepared from a modified polystyrene obtained by polymerizing a mixture comprising 100 parts by weight of styrene monomer and 10W50 parts, pref. 25W50 parts by weight of powdery polyethylene in an aqueous medium. One or both faces of the article (in case of board) or the outer, inner or whole surface of the article (in case of vessel) are coated with an uncured, unsaturated polyester resin to a desired thickness, and cured. A light-weight, foamed resin composite article having excellent strength, heat-insulation, sound-insulation, etc., can be obtained economically, by this process.
