Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the titled high quality compound, a starting material for treatments and additives, in high yield through simplified operations by the ester exchange of an alcohol ester of (meth)acrylic acid with an alcohol, using a catalyst of Li or a specific Li compound free from deterioration of the activity.
CONSTITUTION: A lower alcohol ester of (meth)acrylic acid is subjected to the ester exchange with a higher (polyhydric)alcohol using Li, a compound of LiR (R=H, 1-4C clkyl, or phenyl) (e.g. lithium hydride, butyllithium), a compound of LiAl (R')4 (R'=H, 1-4 alkoxy) (e.g. lithiumaluminum hydride), an inorganic acid salt of Li (e.g. lithium halide, lithium carbonate), an organic acid salt of Li (e.g. Li laurate, Li stearate), lithium acetylacetonate, or a Li oxide as a catalyst to afford a higher (polyhydric) alcohol ester of (meth)acrylic acid.
