Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide an on-off control system for discharge lamp, in which waveless portions are provided in high-frequency oscillation for inverter with proper inter vals, and a thyristor is turned on and off in the above waveless portions, whereby it is enabled to protect a discharge lamp from damage if it is turned on and off frequently. CONSTITUTION:Filament of a discharge lamp FL is always pre-heated by the output of a high-frequency oscillated inverter, and it is connected to both ends of the lamp FL via on-off switching means in use of thyristor SCR. On-off control of the discharge lamp FL is achieved through control of the potential at the gate of said thyris tor SCR. In the above arrangement, potential is applied to the gate G to of the thyristor SCR in lighting the lamp FL, whereas the potential at the gate G is removed to turn off the lamp FL. That is, sufficient turn-off time can be afforded since waveless portions as shown at (g) in the deawing are provided in the putput of the inverter. Thus, off-control of the lamp at a high frequency region can be made extremely simple.
