Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent breakdown of cell substrates owing to thermal expansion or thermal shrinkage of electrolyte and make the cell suitable for volume production by constituting at least one of cell substrates with ductile plastics.
CONSTITUTION: Desired electrode patterns are evaporated on long-length flexible plastic films 1, 3, whereby display electrodes 2 and counter electrodes 4 are respectively formed. The films 1, 2 are affixed together by way of spacers 6 and contrast- improving ion transmittable scattering plates 7 are disposed between the electrodes 2, 4. After electrochromic EC electrolyte 5 is injected and sealed in these cells, the films are divided to each cell. Thereby, higher reliability, lower cost and better volume productivity of the EC display cell may be achieved.
