Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the titled compound in high yield in a short time by esterexchange of 2,2,4-trimethyl-1, 3-pentanediol (TMPD) and isobutylisobutylate (IBIB) in the presence of an organic Sn.
CONSTITUTION: The titled compound is obtained by the ester-exchange of TMPO, 3-hydroxy-2,2,4-trimethylpentyl isobutylate or their mixture with IBIB at 120W 250°C, using an organic Sn compound or an organic Ti compound as a catalyst. For example, alkyl Sn (e.g. dibutyl Sn) is used as the organic Sn compound. The Ti compound is e.g. tetraisopropyl titanate. The amount of the catalyst is 0.2W 2wt% of the reaction solution. The reaction is carried out as shown in the reaction scheme.
USE: A plasticizer of vinyl chloride resins, esp. for stainproof vinyl floors.
