Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare polyethylene having a wide molecular weight distribution and improved processability in a high yield, by polymerizing ethylene, using a specific catalyst having a durable high catalytic activity.
CONSTITUTION: Ethylene is polymerized in the presence of a catalyst consisting of (A) a solid component insoluble in aromatic hydrocarbon solvents and (B) a component of an organoaluminum compound and/or a dialkylzinc. The solid component (A) is obtained by reacting (C) a solid component, prepared by reacting (a) the reaction product between a hydropolysiloxane having structural units of formula (R1 is monovalent organic groups selected from alkyl, aryl, aralkyl, alkoxy, and alloxy groups; m is 0, 1, or 2; n is 1, 2, or 3; m+n≤3), or a silicon compound having organic groups and hydroxyl groups bonded to the Si atom and an organo- magnesium compound with (b) a hydrotalcite analog compound having a particle size of 1W500μ or its heat-treated one in an aromatic hydrocarbon, with (a) a halogen-containing Ti or V compound.
