Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent the spillage of sucked dirt through an automatic compression thereof with a raise of a compression plate actuated with a spring provided in a dirt collecting chamber of the vacuum cleaner by insertion of the suction pipe, while the suction port is closed except for the operation time.

CONSTITUTION: A compression plate charged downward with a spring 18 is provided at an upper portion of a dirt collecting chamber of the vacuum cleaner with a closing piece mounted to the tip thereof. When a suction pipe 6 is inserted into a suction port 7, the inclined surface 21 of the tip pushes up the closing piece of the compression plate whereby the plate 17 moves upward. Dirt sucked is blocked with a filter unit 16 so as to be accumulated into the chamber 8. When the suction pipe is withdrawn, the force of the spring 18 pushes the plate down to compress the dirt with the closing piece, closing the suction port 7. Accordingly, the leakage of the dirt from suction port 7 can be eliminated while the dirt is invariably compressed with the plate 17 except for the operation time thereby allowing easy discharge thereof with a ship-bottom shaped lid 11 opened
