Abstract

PURPOSE: To effectively remove NOx while inhibiting heat loss, by beforehand forming a catalyst layer for reducing NOx into a heat exchanger, by heating exhaust gas by passing it in the high temp side direction from the low temp side of the heat exchanger, and by again passing it to the low temp side from the high temp side of the heat exchanger.
CONSTITUTION: Exhaust gas containing NOx is fed to a heat exchanger 1 from the arrow head A direction, its temp rises due to heat from a heat exchanging plate 2 and 1st stage NOx removal is performed at a catalyst filled portion 4a. Exhaust gas is temp raised up to a fixed temp at an auxiliary heater 3, introduced to a catalyst filled portion 5a from an arrow head B, heat exchanged with exhaust gas from the arrow head A direction while carrying out 2nd stage NOx removal, changed into comparatively low temp, and introduced to a return path 5
