Abstract
PURPOSE: In the production of peroxide from an olefin and hydroperoxide in the presence of an acid catalyst, an excess amount of the olefin is used, thus producing peroxide in high yield.
CONSTITUTION: The reaction between an olefin and hydroperoxide in the presence of an acid catalyst is conducted wherin the molar ratio of olefinic double bond to hydroperoxy group is kept 2 or more. The olefin is preferably an aromatic compound bearing isopropenyl groups and the hydroperoxide is preferably tertiary hydroperoxide of the formula (R12,13,16,18 are alkyl; R14,17,19 are aliphatic hydrocarbyl; R15 is alkylene). The acid catalyst is preferably a sulfonic acid. Further the addition of a samll amount of cyclic ether can inhibit the oligomerization of olefin. The ratio of the olefinic double bonds to hydorperoxy group is preferably 10-300
