Abstract
PURPOSE:To make it easy to start with the power source of 200V by having arc discharged only when main electrodes become negative by half-wave rectification of the current between main and auxiliary electrodes and by turning off the auxiliary electrodes width bimetal switch in 3-120 seconds after lighting. CONSTITUTION:Neodymium iodide, caesium iodide, mercury, argon gas, etc. are enclosed in luminous tube 1 which contains main electrode 2 and 3 and auxiliary electrode 4 which is located adjacent to main electrode 2. With the auxiliary electrode 4, starting resistance 5 and bimetal switch are connected in series. Only half cycle of AC current beween main electrodes when main electrodes become negative is used as arc discharge to heat the main electrodes and the other half cycle is half- wave rectified so that power voltage is impressed as it is on main electrodes, and discharge is instantly made between main electrodes by the high voltage on the main electrodes, thus making start easy.
