Abstract
NEW MATERIAL:Polyhalogenated ethers of formula I: (X1 is F or Cl; X2 is F, Cl, or CF3; X3 is F, Cl, or H; X4 is Cl, Br or I).
EXAMPLE: A mixture of compounds of formula II and of formula III.
USE: Surfactants, textile finishes, and ion exchange membranes.
PROCESS: Fluorinated olefins are reacted with sulfuric anhydride to give sultones. The resulting acid halides of formula IV, obtained by isomerization of the sultones, are reacted with alkali metal fluorides, e.g. cesium fluoride, etc. in a polar solvent, e.g. acetonitrile, etc. at 0W70°C to form a reactin product, which is reacted with fluorinated olefin in the presence of a halogen at 20W50°C in a stage free of danger, thus forming polyhalogenated ethers of formula I
