Abstract

PURPOSE: To easily protect a magnetic tape from having its content broken by comparing a protect key, which has a program from a processing unit, and a memory protect key of the magnetic tape so as to determine the propriety of putting the command into practice.
CONSTITUTION: In response to the program signals from a command processing unit 1, the protect key recorded in a protect key registor 2 is read out, and the protect key recorded in a magnetic tape is read out of a protect key memory 3. Those two protect keys are compared in a comparator 4 so as to determine whether or not the reading and writing operations of the magnetic tape are to be accomplished by a normal type command processing unit 5 through the unit 1 in response to the coincidence or incoincidence signals which are generated by the comparator 4. Thus, the content in the magnetic tape is protected simply and reliably thereby to prevent any establishment of breakage
