Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain high-quality synthetic fibers without variation in polymer temperature, by spceifying the polymer melt viscosity, extruder metering zone, and passing time in melt spinning a high-polymerization degree polymer through an extruder-type melt spinning
CONSTITUTION: Pellets of a high-polymerization degree polymer, e.g. polyamide or polyester, are fed to an extruder-type melt spinning machine, molten, metered and extruded, then spun into fibers through a spinneret. The polymer melt viscosity at the extruder head is 6,500W11,000 poises, and the channel depth of the screw metering zone is adjusted to a value expressed by formula I, and the polymer temperature is maintained within ±°C of the target temperature. The polymer is then passed through the barrel end to the spinneret surface after a time t (min) expressed by formula II, and spun without variation (≤±0.5°C) of polymer temperature, thus giving uniform high-quality fibers
