Abstract

PURPOSE: To separate and recover metals such as V, Ni, etc., from catalysts by the procedure in which waste catalyst discharged in the hydrogenation of a heavy hydrocarbon oil is roasted in an oxidative atmosphere and then subjected to an alkaline aqueous solution extraction treatment.
CONSTITUTION: In the hydropurification of heavy hydrocarbon oils or in the hydrogenation treatment of these for removal of metals and so on, magnesium silicate such as zeolite, etc., is used as catalyst. In this case, the waste catalyst contains metals such as V, Ni, etc., which originate in the heavey oils, so that these metals are usually recovered. The waste catalyst is first roasted at 300 to 900°c in an oxidative atmosphere to remove C and S content by oxidation, and then treated with an aqueous solution of an alkaline metal compound, e.g., NaOH, Na2CO3, etc., at 30 to 120°C to remove Si and V by leaching. The leachate is mixed with ammonium sulfate, etc., to regulate pH to less than 9 to precipitate SiO2 and also to separate V in solution for recovery. Then, the residual leachate, containing Mg and Ni, is treated with aomonia to separate and recover Ni in the form of a complex by extraction
