Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce the response of a heavy container at an earthquake time by disposing an inner cylinder within an outer cylindrical container containing viscous fluid and connecting the lower end of a heavy tower container to the upper surface of the inner cylinder by a vibration transmitting joint.
CONSTITUTION: A heavy container body 1 such as a steam generator or the like is connected to the inner cylinder 8 disposed within an outer cylinder 9 for containing viscous fluid 10 by a vibration transmitting joint 7, which is connected at both ends thereof to the body 1 and the cylinder 8, respectively by universal joints 5, 5. A fulcrum 6 is so constructed as to transmit vibration of any horizontal direction not to restrict the rotation of the joint 7. The fulcrum 6 is also provided in the vicinity of the body 1, and vibration of the body 1 is transmitted in expanded manner to the cylinder 8. Thus, the vibration of the cylinder 8 induces the circumferential flow of the fluid 10 so as to thereby absorb the vibration energy of the body 1.
