Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the lamp characteristics of a fluorescent lamp by delaying the energizing time of the electrode filament at inert gas evacuating side from that of the electrode filament at inert gas feeding side to exactly and sufficiently execute the arc discharge of the filament at the evacuating side and also to exactly decompose and activate the cathode materials at both ends.
CONSTITUTION: A bulb 1 is evacuated to vacuum by an evacuating unit 12, and is fed with Ar gas by a gas supplying unit 11. The electrode filament 6 at the Ar gas feeding side is energized by the current of 800mA for two seconds after two seconds upon starting of the gas feeding of 700mA for two seconds, and of 600mA for two seconds so as to decompose and activate the cathode material 8. The filament 7 at the evacuating side is also energized similarly in cycle to that of the filament 6 after the lapse of four seconds after feeding the Ar gas. After the filaments 6, 7 are thus completely heated through energization, the Ar gas of 2.5Torr is filled in the bulb within five seconds to then seal the evacuating tubes 4, 5.
