Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide an electromagnetic induction type coupler which can be constructed in compact without reducing the clutching or braking torque and which has clutching and fraking functions.
CONSTITUTION: In order to have a clutching function to start a load, it is sufficient to energize a coil 3 by a DC power source. A driven shaft 4 is rotationally driven by the resultant magnetic flux ϕa. In order to obtain the braking function, the energization of the coil 3 is blocked, and a coil 10 is energized so that a desired braking force is applied to a rotary member 5 by the magnetic flux ϕb. According to the present invention, since magnetic members 6 and 7 which are magnetically shielded by a non-magnetic member 8 of annular shape are fixed to the inner and outer circumferences of the non-magnetic member 8, there is no fear of leaking the magnetic flux from the coils 3 and 10.
