Abstract

PURPOSE: To promote an improvement of reliability and maintainability, by avoiding a firing of thyristors in all arms, at the time of gate block failure, to made a limit to a thyristor in the arm with a fault current flowing.
CONSTITUTION: If caused a short circuit fault in an arm, comprising a thyristor 2, with a fault current such as i1 flowing, a fault current comes to flow in a rectifying diode 11, and a current is made flowing in a light emitting element 14 through a resistor 13 by a voltage, generated due to a voltage drop produced in said rectifying diode. The element emits a light by the before said current, and this light emitting signal is transmitted to a photoelectric converter 16 through a light guide 15, being converted here into an electric signal and fed to a gate controller 17.
