Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the title compound usable as a raw material for polymers or a crosslinking agent, rapidly in a high yield, by reacting a polyester consisting of an aromatic dicarboxylic ccid as an acid component with ethanolamine under heating.
CONSTITUTION: a polyester, e.g. polycthylene terephthalate, consisting of an aromatic dicarboxylic acid as an acid component is reacted with ethanolamine at 30W200°C, preferably 50W150°C to give N, N'-bis(2-hydroxyethyl) aromatic dicarboxylic acid amide. The molar ratio of the ethanolamine to the polyester is preferably ≥ 2. Oligomers and wastes produced in manufacturing fibers or plastics, or waste polyester may be cited as the polyester.
EFFECT: Useful for saving resources.
