Abstract

PURPOSE: To continuously and surely measure the liquid levels of cryogenic liquid by supplying the current of levels changing at a specified cycle to a superconductive wire thereby measuring the liquid levels.
CONSTITUTION: When the current of a level above the transition cirrent is applied for a specified short time to a superconductor 5 which is dipped in cryogenic liquid 2 such as helium, etc., the portions of the conductor 5 being dipped in the liquid 2 becomes superconducting of electric resistance value zero and the electric resistance of the conductor 5 of the normally onducting state above the liquid level of the liquid 2 changes according to the liquid level. when in this state the current to be applied for a specified time to the conductor 5 is brought to a level below the transition current and the voltage corresponding to the electric resistance of normally conducting part is detected, the current application time becomes short and the evaporation of the liquid 2 owing to current application is prevented. Hence, if the current is applied at the specified cycle, the measurement of the levels of the cryogenic liquid may be continuously and surely performed.
