Abstract

PURPOSE: An organic semi-conductive substance is admixed to a polyolefin composition containing a crosslinking agent and the resulting mixture is irradiated with microwaves to attain sufficient crosslinking without the reduction in extruding processability and the formation of voids.
CONSTITUTION: To (A) 100 parts by wt of a polyolefin, are admixed (B) 0.5W5.0 parts of a crosslinking agent of organic peroxide such as dicumyl peroxide and (C) 0.5W10 parts of an organic semi-conductive substance such as ethylene oxide adduct to laurylamine or a liquid crystal such as p-azoxyanisol and they are keaded and irradiated with microwaves. Thus, the crossling agent is decomposed by the inducing heating to effect the crosslinking of polyolefin.
EFFECT: Said method is very effective in covering power cables in which the formation of voids causes serious reduction in physical properties.
