Abstract

PURPOSE: To manufacture a quality-controlled type high-tensile steel of excellent uniform elongation characteristics by subjecting low-carbon steel to a specific heat treatment.
CONSTITUTION: A steel, containing 0.01 to 0.20 % C, 0.005 to 0.50 % Si, 0.3 to 5.0 % Mn, and as needed, one or two or more of less than 2 % Cu, less than 8 % Ni, less than 1 % Cr, less than 1 % Mo, less than 0.15 % Al, less than 0.1 % Nb, less than 0.1 % V, and less than 0.1 % Ti, is subjected to a hardening treatment beginning at a temperature above the Ac3 transformation point, and then subjected to more than one heat-air cool cycle in which heating is made between Ac1 and Ac3 and gradual cooling is made at a cooling rate equal to or less than air cooling. A high-tensile steel, having an uniform elongation of more than [30-0.25 (tensile strength in kg/mm2)] % and a strength of 60 to 80 kg/mm2, or an uniform elongation of more than [22-0.15 × (tensile strength in kg/mm2)] % and a strength of 80 to 100 kg/mm2, can be easily obtained.
