Abstract

PURPOSE: To make possible the improvement in measurement accuracy and saving of labor by having a mechanism of converting the electric output waveforms of vibrations, drawing out only the complex basic frequency components of torsional vibrations and caluculating the internal friction of test specimens.
CONSTITUTION: The torsional vibrations of a vibrator system are converted to electrical outputs by a detection coil. These electrical outputs enter a limiter via amplifier to close a relay until they reach the predetermined voltage amplitude, after which they are fed back to excitation coil to let the same vibrate. When the specified ampitude is reached, the relay is opened by the actiin of the limiter, shifting into free attenuation vibrations. The output waveforms of the torsional vibrations are recorded in a recorder by the action of a timer. The output data are digitized and sample values are drawn out, from which only the basic frequency components are readily drawn out by waveform analysis (Fourier transformation with a high speed electronic computer). The real number portions thereof give the basic frequency and the imaginary number portions the internal friction value. As compared to a method of analyzing curves, higher accuracy and less labor and time may be achieved.
