Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a method of treating waste water discharged from iron works by way of forced sedimentation, which is capable of shortening the time required for sedimentation of waste water by adding therein magnetized iron powder, and thus making it unnecessary to apply dehydrating treatment to the deposit.
CONSTITUTION: Waste water 1 discharged from iron works is supplied to a sedimentation basin 2 and reserved therein. On the other hand, iron powder is supplied to magnetism generating means 3, and iron powder magnetized therein is introduced into the sedimentation basin 2 together with waste water 1. With such an arrangement, magnetic particles of iron or the like, constituting solid suspended matters of waste water in the sedimentation basin, are attracted to the magnetized iron powder, so that they can be settled on the bottom of basin promptly and effectively.
