Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare a polyesterimide resin useful for powder coating and giving a cured product having excellent heat resistance, chemical resistance, electrical characteristics, etc., by reacting an acidolyzed polyester with a diamine, and thereafter, reacting the product with a polyhydric alcohol.
CONSTITUTION: (1) A linear polyester, e.g. PET, etc., is made to react with a tricarboxylic acid anhydride, e.g. trimellitic anhydride, etc., at 230W260°C. The molar ratio of the acid anhydride to the polyester is pref. 0.3W0.7 to 1. (2) The product is made to react with an organic diamine, e.g. diaminodiphenylmethane, etc., at 180W220°C. The molar ratio of the diamine to the acid anhydride is 0.5 to 1. (3) The product is further reacted with a polyhydric alcohol, e.g. glycerol, etc., preferably at 180W260°C. (4) The transparent resin thus obtained is pulverized to give the desired polyesterimide resin for powder coating.
