Abstract

PURPOSE: To simplify a cleaning equipment by carrying out AC electrolysis to control formation of gas when stains on the surfaces of a cold rolled steel sheet are removed in an alkali detergent soln.
CONSTITUTION: Electrodes 9... are alternately arranged in the electrolytic cleaning tank in the running deirection of steel strip 8, and AC voltage is applied to electrodes 9... . Thus, rolling oil and other stains on the strip surfaces are removed in an alkali detergent slon. The results such as the amt. of fats and oils, and iron powder left on the strip surfaces after the electrolytic cleaning are comparable to an electrolytic cleaning method applying DC voltage. Accordingly, an expensive DC power tource unit becomes unnecessary, formation of gas due to electrolysis is controlled, and a danger of explosion can be eliminated, so the cleaning equipment is made of open type and simplified.
