Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a steering system for vehicle, in which vehicle is power steered only at the time of stationary swinging of steering wheels, by controlling a changeover valve for actuator by means of a switching mechanism which is operated independently of turning of the steering handle, whereby construction of the steering system can be made extremely simple.
CONSTITUTION: Hydraulic actuator 14 is coupled to manual steering system. When the vehicle is travelling, hydraulic actuator 14 is inoperative and turning motion of steering handle 10 is transmitted to linkage 12 via gear unit, whereby manual steering is carried out. On the other hand, switching mechanism A includes a control switch 18 for controlling electric connection to the power source, and it is attached to steering handle cover 10a. With vertical swinging of lever 20, changeover switch 15 is actuated and hydraulic oil is introduced into actuator 14, whereby steering wheels 13 are turned in a desired direction.
