Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a powdery cationic polymer useful as flocculants for treating waste water, e.g. municipal sewage or pulp waste liquor, etc., having improved water-solubility, by adding a spcific nitrogen-containing compound as a stabilizer to a solution suspension, and by drying the mixture.
CONSTITUTION: (A) Methacrylamide or acrylamide polymer having a molecular weight of preferably 100,000W100,000,000 is reacted with formaldehyde and a secon dary amine to give a 1W50 wt. % aqueous solution of aminomethylated 1W20 mol based on the aminomethyl group of a nitrogen-containing compound, e.g. guanidine, dicyandiamide, biguanide, guarylurea (inorganic salt), biuret, ethyle (thio) urea, etc. is added to stabilize the aqueous solution. The solution is then vacuum dried to give the objective powdery cationic polymer.
