Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a level gauge of simple construction and superior reliability by the constitution provided with an enclosure contactable to liquid level, a thermocouple disposed within this enclosure and a heating means disposed on the circumfrernce of this thermocouple.
CONSTITUTION: A sheath type thermocouple 16 is inserted within the thermocouple protecting tube 15 fixed to a flange 2 and a microheater 17 is wound on the circumfrernce of the end thereof where the termocouple exists. The microheater 17 is supplied with current from an AC power source 7. Hence, the temperature at the end of the protecting tube 15 becomes the temperature higher than the liquid 3 temperature contained in a case 1 when the liquid level is L1. At the liquid level L2, the heat evolved by the microheater 7 is radiated into liquid metal 3 through the wall of the protecting tube 15 and therefore the temperature indicated by the thermocouple 16 lowers down to the value nearly equal to the liquid metal 3 temperature. If the temperature change of this time is detected with the thermocouple 16 and is observed with a recorder 14, the liquid level may be known.
