Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide an apparatus capable of removing fur attached to the surface of nuclear fuel rods positively without causing uneven wear of fuel rods, by inserting a fuel rod into a hole formed in a box-like container and rotating a plurality of vertical and horizontal, rotatable brushes which are disposed in the manner surrounding the fuel rod.
CONSTITUTION: Holes 3a, 3b are formed respectively at the central portion of upper and lower end plates 1a, 1b of box-like container 1, and a plurality of rotor blades 4 are arranged on the inner peripheral surface of the container 1. Further, a plurality of rotatable vertical brushes 9 are pivotally supported on the lower support plate 8 of container 1, in the manner surrounding nuclear fuel rod 2, and similarly, a plurality of rotable horizontal brushes 12 are also pivotally supported just downwards of the vertical brushes 9. When fuel rod 2 is inserted into hole 3 of container 1 and rotation of drive gear 7 is started, external gear 6a, internal gear 6b and gear 10 are turned successively. Vertical brushes 9 are rotated by the gear 10 and remove fur attached on the outer surface of fuel rod 2 along the length thereof, whereas horizontal cleaning of the fuel rod 2 is achieved by the horizontal brushes 12.
