Abstract

PURPOSE: To simplifty a driving circuit by using two-phase-driven self shift-type gas discharge panel, which has an inferior shift directivity and a high resolution, in a bar graph display unit.
CONSTITUTION: Common electrode Y is formed along the extending direction of a displayed bar graph on the inside face of one substrate 1. Two group shift electrodes x1i and x2i are arranged regularly in the direction intersecting electrode Y on the inside face of other substrate 2, and are connected to busses X1 and X2 alternately. Next, write electrode W which determines a write discharge cell is provided in one side of these shift electrode groups x1i and x2i, and all electrodes are coated with dielectric 3 and are protected. In this constitution, when prescribed driving voltages are applied to write electrode W, busses X1 and X2, and electrode Y, a discharge spot is expanded to display according to displayed input information. Thus, required conditions of shift margin and shift directivity are relaxed in case of character display, thereby simplifying the unit.
