Abstract
PURPOSE: To decompose methyl ethyl ketone peroxide existing in methyl ethyl ketone, easily, by treating the methyl ethyl ketone with activated carbon under specific conditions, thereby preventing the danger of explosion.
CONSTITUTION: Methyl ethyl ketone containing a methyl ethyl ketone peroxide is treated with an activated carbon layer at normal temp.-the b.p. temp. of methyl ethyl ketone for ≥2 min to decompose the methyl ethyl ketone peroxide. Methyl ethyl ketone peroxide is easily decomposed to CO2, H2O, or harmless organic acids.
