Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare arabinofuranosyl adenine useful as an antileukemic agent, antiviral agent,herbicide, etc., by the aerobical cultivation of Streptomyces herbaceus.
CONSTITUTION: Streptomyces herbaceus (FERM-P No. 4334) is cultured in a nutrient medium, and 9-β-D-arabinofuranosyl adenine of formula is separated from the medium. The culturing is carried out pref. in an aerated and agitated deep tank fermentor at 27-35°C and nearly neutral condition for 2-5 days.
