NEW MATERIAL:4-Chloromethylsulfonyl-2,6-dinitrohalogenobenzene derivative of formula III (X is halogen).
EXAMPLE: 4-Chloromethylsulfonyl-2,6-dinitrochlorobenzene.
USE: Algicide.
PROCESS: The 4-chloromethylsulfonyl-2,6-dinitrohalogenobenzene derivative is prepared by (1) oxidizing 4-chloromethylthio-halogenobenzene with hydrogen peroxide in the presence of acetic acid to afford 4-chloromethylsulfonyl halogenobenzene, of the formula II, and (2) dinitrifying the compound II with a mixture of sulfuric acid and nitric acid.
