Abstract

PURPOSE: To lower treatment cost and prevent public nuisance by adding specical substances to waste and melting them by heat.
CONSTITUTION: Waste matter such as sludge is added with (1) boric acid- or borate-bearing material containing 1-100 parts of fused boric acid and (2) silicic acid- or silicate-bearing material containing 3-100 parts of fused silicic acid based on 100 parts by weight of waste ashes, and is melted by heating. When silicic acid (silicate) and boric acid (borate) turn into glass, noxious substances such as heavy metals are fixed as network-former ions or network-modifier ions. Thus the noxious substances are prevented from dissolving out of solidified material after treatment, and the boric acid (borate) lowers the melting point of waste to cut down treatment fuel cost.
