Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide an inexpensive decorative article having mosaic patterns by adjusting the pariticle diameter of crystals of a relatively cheap metal material depending upon the casting condition or the heat treating condition to a suitable size, and thereafter subjecting the metal material to a corrosion treatment.
CONSTITUTION: Metal materials such as gold, silver, platinum and copper called precious metals and alloys thereof are used. When crystal particles of said metal materials are adjusbed to a particle size visible by eyesight by the casting condition or the heat treating condition, and subjected to corrosion under a suitable corrosion condition such as an aqueous solution of ferric chloride, crystal particles exposed on the surfaces of said metal material are different in the conditions of being corroded depending upon the crystal orientation thereof, and accordingly, reflection of light becomes different. By processing such metal materials it is possible to easily form mosaic patterns using the crystal particle boundary as a partition line and to manufacture decorative articles such as brooches, pendants, buttons and the like at cheap costs.
