Abstract

PURPOSE: To install a closed sealing oil tank at will and obtain a sufficient shaft sealing effect, by providing the tank near a pump and always automatically maintaining the pressure in the tank above the value corresponding to the inside and outside water levels.
CONSTITUTION: Shaft seals 3, 3' are provided at both the sides of a shaft 2 which supports moving blades 1. Shaft sealing oil 0 in the shaft seals is connected to shaft sealing oil O in the sealing oil tank 6 located near the axial-flow pump 5. The tank 6 is of the closed type and is coupled at is upper part to a pressure regulating valve 7. A pressure transmitter 8 is attached to the discharge pipe 12 of the axial-flow pump 5 to transmit the discharge pressure to a control circuit 9, which operates the pressure regulating valve 7. The pressure of compressed air supplied from an air compessor 10 connected to the tank 6 is automatically controlled by said regulating valve 7 not to be lower than the value corresponding to the inside and outside water levels to maintain the pressure in the tank 6.
