Abstract
PURPOSE: To form the perfect borate layer having no excess borax and obtain a Jumet wire free from leakage after sealing by coating and baking an aqueous borax solution on the surface of a copper-clad nickel alloy wire then dissolving away the residual borax and applying rebaking.
CONSTITUTION: A copper clad nickel alloy wire 4 is heated in a preliminary oxidizing furnace 5 such as electric furnace, gas burner or the like to form a copper suboxide layer. After this wire has been dipped in an aqueous borax solution bath 6 containing borax, it is heated in the first firing furnace 7 similar to the furnace 5 to form a borate layer. Next, the alloy wire 4 is dipped in a hot water bath of, e.g., 40 to 90°C to dissolve away the excess borax, after which it is heated in asecond firing furnace 9 to form the perfect borate layer. The wire is then taken up on a take-up machine 10. Since these let the perfect borate layer be formed, the Jumet wire which does not absorb moisture, has better wettability with glass at the glass sealing and will not cause leakage after sealing may be readily obtained.
