Abstract
PURPOSE: To provide the subject process comprising the steps of : bringing waste water having a high BOD loading into contact with a fluidized layer consisting of particulate matters of a material adapted for the adherence and growth of microbes, and then passing said waste water through a filler layer consisting of a similar material under a specific condition, thereby improving the treated water quality and the treatment speed.
CONSTITUTION: Waste water having a BOD loading of more than 0.2 kg BOD/kg MLSS.day is introduced into an adjustment pond 2, and slowly subjected to aeration treatment. Thereafter, the waste water is sent to a fluidized bed type treatment tower 4, and brought into contact with a fluidized layer consisting of particulate matters of a meterial such as sand adapted for the adherence and groath of microbes thereby to decompose and remove the BOD substance. Since microbes form fixed films on the surfaces of the particulate matters, they are stable, and have no fear of causing bulking. Then, while soluble BOD concentration in the treating water is adjusted to more than 20 mg/l, and a part of the waste water is extracted and sent to a catalytic oxidation pond 7 and passed through a filler layer 17 formed into a net-like shape or a honeycomb shape by means of a material adapted for the adherence and growth of microbes to adsorb and separate fine flocs of microbes.
