Abstract
PURPOSE: To provide the subject method comprising sending an inert gas of more than the large atmospheric pressure into a bulb, and causing a current to flow to the electrodes in this atmosphere to decompose and activate a cathodic substance whereby the decomposed gas is not adsorbed to the fluorescent body.
CONSTITUTION: One exhaust pipe 8 is connected to a device 9 for supplying an inert gas such as argon or the like, and another exhaust 8 is connected to an exhaust device 10. Respective conductive wires 4 are connected to a power source devices 11, respectively. Then, an argon gas is introduced into the bulb 1 from the supplying device 9 to substitute argon gas for air within the bulb 1. Upon this occasion, the bulb is preheated and cleaned in high degree. Then, the interior of the bulb 1 is maintained in the argon gas atmosphere of more than the large atmospheric pressure, and a current is caused to flow to the electrode filament 5 thereby to carry out the decomposition and activation of the cathodic substance 6 such as barium carbonate applied on the electrode. In the midway of the activation, mercury is caused to fall dropwise in the bulb or a pulse voltage is applied at the ultimate period of the current flowing.
