Abstract
PURPOSE: To recover high quality gypsum of uniform large particle size, by dividing gypsum slurry formed in oxidation stage of a lime desulfurization process into fine particle size slurry and larger particle size slurry, the former being returned to the absorbing soln. and the latter being subjected to gypsum recovery, thus occurrance of scale trouble is prevented.
CONSTITUTION: Exhaust gas 1 contg. SOx discharged from a boiler is colled to nearly 55°C in a cooling tower 2, removed of SOx in an ansorption tower 7 by washing with slurry contg. lime stone or lime etc., and the exhaust gas is released to the air. A portion of circulating absorbing soln. is drawn off and sent to a pH control tank 13, where unreacted lime stone is converted to gypsum by the addn. of sulfuric acid from a sulfuric acid-feeding pipe 14, and the pH is adjusted so as to be suitable for oxidation. The soln. is then delivered to an oxidation tank 16, where sulfite contained in the slurry is oxidized to sulfate with compressed air sent through a pipe 17, and is divided in a liq. cyclone 18 into slurries of gypsum of large particle size and fine particle size. The former is dehydrated in a dehydrator 23 to recover gypsum 24, and the latter is returned to the absorption tower 7, where it is used as gypsum seeds and as a portion of water to be replenished to process water.
