Abstract
PURPOSE: To recover unslagged CaO in converter slag as CaCO3 and recycle the CaCO3 as construction material as well as starting material for iron manufacture by injecting water into crushed converter slag and blowing CO2-contg. gas into the resulting aq. soln. to separate CaCO3.
CONSTITUTION: Crushed converter slag (a) of about 10mm or less is packed into packed tower 1, and water is injected from main pipe 9 with pump 8 to obtain an aq. soln. by catalytic reaction. This soln. is fed to thickener 2 through discharge pipe 3, and in thickener 2 CO2-contg. gas is blown into the soln. from pipe 10 at a regulated rate while measuring the pH value of the soln. with pH meter 12 and detecting the measured value with recorder 2 to maintain the pH value constant, thus inducing the following reaction: Ca(OH)2+CO2→CaCO3+H2. A slurry contg. the CaCO3 precipitated is then introduced into centrifugal separator 4 through pipe 5 to recover the CaCO3 by solid-liquid separation.
