Abstract

PURPOSE: To enable the easy manufacture without increasing outside diameter by passing a multiplicity of optical fibers into an oversized covering pipe then reducing the diameter of the covering pipe through drawing.
CONSTITUTION: The bundle comprising bundling multiple optical fibers 1 is passed in a covering pipe 2 made of metals or the like. Here, the use of the covering pipe 2 having an inside diameter slightly larger than the outside diameter of the optical fiber bundle 1 permits easy insertion and obviates damaging the optical fibers 1. If such a pipe is passed between the grooves rolls 3a, 3b assuming a semicircular shape, it is reduced down to the outside diameter 2a of the covering pipe 2. This readily yields the bundled optical fiber bundle, makes the work easy and obviates the breakage of the optical fibers.
