Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a metal ingot with an objective component value by utilizing a component inferior electrode availably through a mechanism wherein a pipe or the like filled with a predetermined amount of metal is welded to an electrode of which an electrode component to be molten is different from an objective value to easily adjust a component such as C, Cr or the like.
CONSTITUTION: In case of preparing a metal ingot 5 with a predetermined component through a molten slag 3 by an electroslag remelting method using a water cooled casting mold 6, an electrode 2 or the like, when components of an electrode 2 are different from an objective value, a pipe 1 such as a carbon steel pipe or the like filled with a predetermined amount of a predetermined metal being necessary to adjust those components is fixed to an electrode 2 by means of welding or the like to carry out electroslag melting. By this method, components such as C, Cr, Mn, Mo or the like which are difficultly adjusted conventionally can be easily adjusted. Moreover, in case of high component concentration of an electrode 2, a metal not containing the said component is filled in a pipe 1 and a concentration of the said component can be lowered to an objective value.
