Abstract

PURPOSE:To make a book-binding process efficient, by conducting the conventional glueing work in a book printing and binding line when printed sheets of paper are ejected from a printing press. CONSTITUTION:A continuous web 22 of paper, which has previously been printed, is split into narrower continuous webs 12', 14' of paper by means of a slitter 20. The narrower continuous webs are folded in two by their respective triangle paltes 24. Thereafter, so-folded webs are glued together with an adhesive sprayed from a nozzle 34 by means of a pair of second nip rollers 32, cut with a same interval by a cutting drum 36, and then ejected as folded prints 10. Where folded prints 10 are used to form certain frontispiece and postscript pages, it is fed onto a gathering chain 38, similar to folded prints 40 which will make up its inner pages. Either the frontispiece or postscript pages 14 are then opened and, then, the cover 10 is placed astride over the folded prints 40. Here, the cover constitutes the front six pages and last two pages of the folded prints 10. A front and back cover is then applied to the folded prints 10, 40. It is then stapled along its backbone and cut into a desired size, resulting in the completion of an internally stapled book.
