Abstract

PURPOSE: To simplify the structure of an internal combustion engine having a subsidiary chamber and to faciliate assembling, maintenance, etc. of the engine, by forming a subsidiary chamber integrally with iginition plug, and forming at least one port in the subsidiary chamber for communicating the subsidiary chamber to main chamber.
CONSTITUTION: In ignition plug 2 including insulator 3, plug body 4, gasket seat 5 and threaded portion 6, a semispherical subsidiary chamber 7 made of metal such as stainless steel, platinum, nickel or the like, having a high durability against high temperature, is formed integrally with the threaded portion 6. The subsidiary chamber 7 is formed with a plurality of connecting ports 8 and a grounding electrode 9 is disposed in chamber 7 to form a discharging gap to center electrode 10. Subsidiary chamber/iginition plug unit 1 arranged as above is assembled to cylinder head 12 such that subsidiary chamber 7 is located in main chamber 14. Further, a fuel injection valve 18 is fixed in intake pipe 16 at a position spaced from intake valve 17, so that fuel is ejected into subsidiary chamber 7 and adjacent portions during suction stroke of piston.
